The evening after a parade in Leviatown to celebrate the brawnen’s victories over the grovetenders, Kram the Mighty was called to an emergency war council meeting at the Stronghold. Awsh and Claff were already there, seated around a polished stone table along with a couple of other brawnen advisors and undergenerals.
“We’ve received word that the heirs are mobilizing to push back our forces,” Awsh said. “Scouts have been examining our battlements near Testament, and convoys delivering solid-state Source into the city have been increasing.”
Kram the Mighty recognized immediately what that meant. The heirs were likely preparing a sizable contingent of elfinkaze, deceptively fast hummingbirds bred to carry Source-powered bombs toward high-value targets.
“We can divert some of our people from the grovetender front to support our position with the heirs,” Kram the Mighty suggested. “If we convert most of our spires to lance launchers, they should be able to take out most of the elfinkaze in the air.”
“That won’t be necessary,” Awsh replied. “Ongoing aggression from the heirs is a sign that the status quo between our islands is unsustainable. We will need some of the battalions from our grovetender front, but we’re not reinforcing our line. You’ll be moving in to take Testament. All heir leadership is to be captured or, if capture is not an option, killed. I will be joining you at the front to deliver the terms of the heirs’ surrender.”
